A late-night motorcycle crash at a busy Mount Pleasant intersection left a Racine woman critically injured and put an Oak Creek man in handcuffs in the early hours of June 28. First responders found the passenger with life-threatening injuries at Durand Avenue and East Frontage Road, and she was rushed to Froedtert Hospital. The motorcycle operator was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later booked on multiple drunken driving counts, officials said.
Police: Alcohol Believed To Be A Factor
According to the Mount Pleasant Police Department, officers were called to the intersection at about 12:13 a.m. on June 28 and arrived to find the motorcycle passenger suffering from life-threatening injuries. South Shore Rescue and the South Shore Fire Department provided on-scene care before the woman was transported to Froedtert Hospital, while the operator was taken to Aurora Medical Center for non-life-threatening wounds.
The department said its preliminary investigation indicates alcohol is believed to have contributed to the crash. After the operator was medically cleared, he was taken to the Racine County Jail on counts that include Operating While Intoxicated Causing Great Bodily Harm and Operating While Intoxicated (third offense).
Criminal Complaint Lays Out Alleged Sequence
As reported by Racine County Eye, court documents identify the operator as Austin L. Lynn, 32, of Oak Creek, and state that a Kwik Trip surveillance video showed Lynn operating the motorcycle. The complaint alleges Lynn refused field sobriety tests and at one point claimed to officers that he had been the passenger. It also notes his driving privileges had been revoked since April 2025 and that he was subject to an ignition-interlock requirement and a .02 alcohol prohibition.
According to the filing, the passenger was unresponsive and intubated at the scene and suffered severe head trauma that required brain surgery. Officers obtained a blood draw from Lynn under a search warrant, with results still pending, the complaint states.
