OAK CREEK, Wis. (WFRV) – Both a sheriff’s deputy and his K9 partner are hurt after their squad vehicle was slammed into on I-41 early Monday morning in Wisconsin.
According to a release from the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, a squad car was out on I-41 in Oak Creek with emergency lights flashing in an effort to block lanes and redirect traffic in an attempt to protect those involved in a recent crash.

Officials say a driver, who claimed to be fatigued at the tail end of a long road trip, would wind up slamming into the squad vehicle, injuring Deputy Mindel and 6-year-old Shepherd-Malinois K9 Ryker.
Those red and blue lights are hard to miss. If you are too fatigued to drive or to see emergency lights ahead of you, pull over and rest! If you’re driving with another adult, ask them to take a turn behind the wheel. Whatever you do, don’t just “plow” forward, because this can happen.
