It took longer than expected, but teen is now the owner of Goldcoast Subs in Greenfield

About two years ago, it was announced that 17-year-old Josh Bizub would become the new owner of Goldcoast Subs in Greenfield.

Now, after the COVID-19 pandemic, financing challenges and other obstacles, Bizub is finally the owner of the 30-year-old family restaurant.

The road to becoming a business owner was not easy for Bizub, now 19.

“It was a long one,” said Bizub. “I started out trying to work with banks and different finance companies to get the financing done for the place, and it was a nightmare.”

Bizub began working at the Goldcoast Subs at 4263 W. Layton Ave. while he was a freshman at Greenfield High School. He started as a cashier. He then worked his way up in the business by making sandwiches before further expanding his role as part of management in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was around this time when former owner Rod Waters and his wife Victoria had made the decision to sell the business. The Waters had owned the sandwich shop since 1994.

There were a lot of potential buyers for the restaurant, but Bizub expressed interest in owning the business and wanted to keep the same traditions the sandwich shop had already established.
