A cat stranded atop a utility pole in Milwaukee’s Riverwest neighborhood has been rescued

What goes up must come down. But, sometimes, that takes a little extra effort.

A Riverwest crowd let out a sigh of relief Thursday afternoon after a We Energies employee rescued a cat from the top of a utility pole on the 2500 block of N. Weil St.

Neighbors say the black cat, which had a blue collar on, was stuck on the pole for an estimated three days.

Krissy Oleson said she heard a cat for two days, but wasn’t sure where the sound was coming from. On Thursday, she said the “meows” sounded more frantic. She looked up and saw the cat on top of the utility pole, in the alley behind the houses on that block.

She made several calls to the police department, fire department, Domestic Animal Control and We Energies. Olsen posted to Facebook, saying officials said they weren’t able to help because of the live wires attached to the pole.

Isabel Torres said she heard a cat crying for the last couple days and wonders if it has been atop the pole for those days after spotting it around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
