A Chinese chain restaurant that has been serving Milwaukee’s residents since 1979 has apparently closed its last remaining location.
Wong’s Wok, at 3702 S. 27th St., was not open Thursday afternoon. A sign was hanging on its drive-thru window stating “restaurant closed.”
A customer of the restaurant posted to Facebook last week that he was told the restaurant’s last day was Jan. 27. The restaurant was open as recently as last week. The Wong’s Wok website has also expired.
According to a 2015 article from OnMilwaukee, Wong’s Wok was founded in 1979 by Edward Chin. The restaurant closed its location on West Appleton Avenue on Milwaukee’s northwest side a few years ago and briefly had a location on West Capitol Drive near Shorewood in recent years.
The 27th Street location was the only remaining location. However, there was also a stand at Henry Maier Festival Park, where Summerfest is held. The status of that location is unclear. Summerfest representatives did not immediately respond to questions.
