Longtime Dodgers trade target Corbin Burnes has finally been traded . Late Thursday night, the Milwaukee Brewers sent their ace to the Baltimore Orioles for shortstop Joey Ortiz, left-handed pitcher D.L. Hall and a draft pick. ESPN’s Jeff Passan was among those to report the news.
Burnes, 29, had long been linked to the Dodgers . The 2021 National League Cy Young award winner has made three straight All-Star teams, serving as the ace of the Brewers since transitioning to a full-time starter role in 2021.
Burnes was linked to the Dodgers during the 2022-23 offseason and at the 2023 trade deadline, however, the Brewers declined to move him.
This offseason, it sounded like the team was leaning towards keeping him , but on the first day of Feb., they decided to pull the trigger on a deal.
For the Dodgers, a trade for Burnes at this point in the offseason would have made no sense. The Dodgers made their decision to trade for right-handed starter Tyler Glasnow earlier in the offseason, and after signing Yoshinobu Yamamoto and James Paxton, they have a packed rotation.
