An 18-year-old deaf and schizophrenic teen was hit by a car in Milwaukee while reportedly trying to save a stray dog, highlighting the need for better mental health support.

An unfortunate incident on Friday night resulted in 18-year-old Tastasia Turner being struck by a car in south Milwaukee and left suffering life-threatening injuries.

The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating the crash, which occurred on Silver Spring Drive near the Green Bay Avenue overpass.

Turner, who is deaf and suffers from schizophrenia, is currently recovering from serious injuries at a local hospital, including the removal of her spleen and a kidney, as well as a pelvic fracture.
