The Cermak grocery in Walker’s Point has been temporarily closed by the Milwaukee Health Department.
A notice on the front door of the store said that the business’ “regulated food sales” would be temporarily closed as of Feb. 6. An additional notice has been added by store management that states the store is “temporarily closed for emergency maintenance.”
In a statement provided to the Journal Sentinel on Wednesday, the health department said that during an inspection on Feb. 6, a health department official identified several health code violations.
“These violations included, but were not limited to, the presence of rodent droppings, products damaged and consumed by pests, and live roaches within the facility,” the statement said.
In the inspection report obtained by the Journal Sentinel, there were 23 health code violations observed. The report went into further detail about the observations, stating that dead mice were found in walk-in coolers, utility rooms and food storage areas, mouse dropping were found throughout the building and food packages had been eaten into by rodents in the customer areas and in a storage room.
