The inside story behind Kwik Trip’s explosive growth

Everybody’s favorite Wisconsin gas station has a home-grown business strategy to thank for its ongoing success.

One key component, stressed by former Kwik Trip President and CEO Don Zietlow, involves in-house production of a lot of KT staples (think Glazers doughnuts), which allows the convenience store chain to maintain competitive prices.

It’s just one part of what makes the La Crosse-based company special and massively successful. Kwik Trip’s profit last year was in the neighborhood of $500 million, according to Journal Sentinel estimates.
