Milwaukee hit an all-time record high temperature today – and it might get warmer

It’s no secret that (apart from two weeks or so in mid-January ) this has been one of Milwaukee’s warmest winters in memory.

From one of the warmest Christmases on record to ice festival activity cancellations to delayed freeze dates on Wisconsin’s largest lakes, above-normal temperatures have affected numerous areas of life in the state.

And today, Milwaukee’s warm winter weather has broken yet another record.

The Milwaukee/Sullivan National Weather Service announced on X (formerly known as Twitter) Thursday morning that today’s high temperature of 56 degrees broke the record for a Feb. 8 high temperature in Milwaukee. The previous record of 55 degrees was set in 1990. Records are based on NWS data dating back to the 1870s.

And 56 might even be a conservative estimate. “Under partly to mostly sunny skies, it is possible for today’s high temperature to climb a few more degrees this afternoon,” NWS wrote.

Thursday’s record-setting high is more than 20 degrees warmer than the normal high temperature this time of year ― about 32 to 33 degrees, said local NWS meteorologist Taylor Patterson.
