Cermak Fresh Market in Walker’s Point has reopened

Cermak Fresh Market in Walker’s Point has reopened after it was temporarily closed due to health code violations.

In an emailed statement, the Milwaukee Health Department said health inspectors found that the store had addressed items the department considered priorities.

“MHD will continue to perform follow up inspections in the near future to ensure those concerns continue to be taken care of, at which point MHD will post Cermak’s food establishment grade,” the department said in its statement.

The store was ordered to close Feb. 6 after health inspectors found violations that included live roaches, rodent droppings and signs of damage to products by pests. An inspection report obtained by the Journal Sentinel documented 23 health code violations.

The store re-opened Friday , according to an email from Milwaukee Health Department marketing and communications officer Caroline Reinwald.

A reporter on Saturday afternoon found the department had placed a “Grade Pending” sign on one of the store’s main doors.
