Pregnant woman shot and killed Saturday near 48th and Fairmount

A pregnant woman was shot and killed early Saturday morning near 48th and Fairmount in Milwaukee’s Hampton Heights neighborhood.

Family identified the victim as 28-year-old Kuvina Hickles. They shared with TMJ4 News that she was six weeks pregnant.

“He chose to take my child’s life. He doesn’t know he took part of mine. And my first grandchild. We were so happy. We couldn’t wait to go shopping. And he took that from me,” Carrie Hickles, Kuvina’s mom, cried.

Police say a 27-year-old man was taken into custody regarding the incident. The family said the suspect was Kuvina’s boyfriend, who she lived with, and who was also the father of her child.

“This gun violence in Milwaukee is ridiculous. Too many young women are losing their lives over domestic violence and it’s really sad,” Carrie said.

According to a report from End Domestic Abuse in Wisconsin, 68 people lost their lives to domestic violence in 2022. That number has risen year after year since 2018.

Police say the shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning Hickles was pronounced dead at the scene.
