Mayor’s Restaurant, at ex-Eric’s Porter-Haus site, will serve food plus a taste of history

WAUKESHA – A historic downtown Waukesha building that most notably served as a mayor’s home and later as an American Legion Post will again house a public restaurant.

The owners of the aptly named Mayor’s Restaurant have revealed their intention to open soon at 229 Wisconsin Ave., in the Greek Revival-styled home along one of downtown’s busiest, and oldest, streets. The Lain-Estberg House, as it is listed on National Register of Historic Places, most recently served as Eric’s Porter-Haus, which closed in 2024 after 27 years in business.

Juan and Chelsea Sanchez, who acquired the property recently, obtained a liquor license from the city in April. More recently, the couple posted a “coming soon” sign on the roadside marquee in front of the building and created a Facebook page on April 10 announcing their plans.
