Work On Restoring Lance Sijan Memorial is Underway — Wis. Afternoon News

A husband-and-wife team from Florida, Andy and Luli Bishop, are now in Milwaukee and have begun repairing and restoring the Lance Sijan F-4 Phantom Memorial at the airport.

The Memorial has fallen into disrepair over the years.

Lance Sijan is from Bayview and was a fighter pilot in the Vietnam War. His plane crashed in Vietnam and he was severely injured… A compound fracture in his leg, shattered right hand, and fractured skull.

Lance survived in the jungle for 46 days and was so badly injured that he could only scoot backwards 10 feet a day.

When he was eventually captured. He weighed 80 pounds…. Down from a muscular 220. In numerous Vietnamese prisons he was repeatedly tortured for refusing to give any info besides name, rank, serial number. Eventually Lance died in the Hanoi Hilton…
