10-year-old Wisconsin boy taken into custody after fire at Walmart, estimated merchandise losses in the millions

FRANKLIN, Wis. (WFRV) – A 10-year-old from Milwaukee was arrested on Monday night during an investigation into a fire at a Walmart that is estimated to have caused millions of dollars in merchandise loss.

According to the Franklin Police Department, officers and Franklin Fire Department crews were dispatched to a reported fire in a Walmart around 8:55 p.m. on Monday. Crews arrived around 8:58 p.m. and noticed heavy smoke and visible flames.

The store was evacuated and the fire was extinguished by firefighters. Significant damage was reported to the interior, and the store will reportedly remain closed until full assessments and evaluations are completed.

Further investigations into the fire’s origin led officers to take a 10-year-old Milwaukee boy into custody for questioning. Arson charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County Juvenile Justice Center…
