KEWASKUM, Wis. — A 9/11 remembrance event was held Thursday at the Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial and Education Center. This year marks 24 years since the tragic attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 that killed nearly 3,000 people.
The family of Andrea Haberman was instrumental in getting the 9/11 Memorial and Education Center built in Kewaskum. Haberman, a Kewaskum High School graduate, died when a plane crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. She was just 25-years-old and was there on a business trip.
There are many other Wisconsin connections to that tragic day.
Julie Henneberry was just 10-years-old when she lost her father on 9/11. Lt. Peter Freund was a New York City firefighter who rushed to the World Trade Center. The father of four died trying to save others.
Henneberry moved to Milwaukee in 2013 and is now on the board of directors that leads the Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial and Education Center. She shared her story at this year’s remembrance event…
