The National Weather Service (NWS) in Milwaukee has issued a warning regarding potentially hazardous conditions expected along the shores of Lake Michigan. Starting from late tonight through Saturday afternoon, residents in Sheboygan, Ozaukee, Milwaukee, and Racine Counties are advised to exercise extreme caution due to the forecast of life-threatening waves reaching 3 to 5 feet and dangerous currents. National Weather Service Milwaukee urges the public to “stay out of the water and away from dangerous areas like piers and breakwalls.”
Today’s weather in Milwaukee presents a mix of partly sunny conditions with a high near 73, accompanied by an east wind blowing at 5 to 10 mph. However, the National Weather Service has highlighted the additional risk of increasing chances for scattered storms developing later in the day, extending into the night. A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect due to the combination of high waves and onshore winds that can lead to “strong structural and longshore currents,” with the possibility of rip currents rendering swimming conditions extremely dangerous.
