According to a recent social media post from the Milwaukee Fire Department, its members are proudly embracing their roots and are keen to infuse their rich cultural traditions into daily life at the station.

Engine 31 Firefighter Jose Bermudez is at the forefront of this initiative, as reflected in the tasty treat he cooked up for his crew—a traditional flan that’s both a nod to his heritage and a sweet token of camaraderie; demonstrating how culture and community service can blend seamlessly, and though the MFD is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by showcasing their diverse workforce, it’s clear this isn’t just about ticking diversity boxes but about creating a work environment where everyone’s heritage can be part of the collective identity, where it’s not just about the fires you put out but the relationships you build and the heritage you share as you’re doing it.
