MPS reinforces visitor policies, emphasizes safety and respect in schools

MILWAUKEE— Milwaukee Public Schools is remind families and community members about visitor guidelines designed to keep classrooms safe and welcoming. District officials say the rules help protect students and staff while ensuring smooth visits for parents and guardians.

MPS says respect is key to maintaining a positive environment. The district is encouraging everyone in its schools- students, staff, families, and visitors- to:

  • Remain calm
  • Use kind and appropriate language
  • Follow staff instructions
  • Work together toward solutions

Because families are welcome in schools, MPS stresses that clear visitor procedures are necessary. The district outlines the following requirements:

  • Schedule visits in advance with school staff.
  • Limit visits to two people per student for meetings, conferences, and classroom visits unless an administrator approves otherwise.
  • Use main entrance only
  • Report to the office or security desk.
  • Show a photo ID. Anyone age 14 or older must present identification such as school ID or driver’s license.
  • Sign in and out on the official MPS Visitor Record.
  • Wear a visitor pass at all times.
  • Be escorted to and from destinations.
  • Return the visitor pass and sign out before leaving.

The district says the procedures help keep buildings secure and provide staff with an accurate record of who is inside at all times.

MPS also reminds parents and guardians that concerns about student behavior must be identified and handled by staff, not visitors…
