MILWAUKEE, Wis. – As Milwaukee leaders continue reviewing the proposed 2026 city budget authored by Mayor Cavalier Johnson, on city alderman is suggesting removing a part of downtown’s transportation network in response to an increasingly contentious portion of the budget proposal.
Scott Spiker wants to do away with increasing the city’s vehicle registration fee, or wheel tax. The increase is included in the proposed budget for next year.
“Just as families around the City have learned to tighten their belts, we in City Government have to look hard at how we can tighten ours,” said Spiker in a news release October 8. “I don’t know about you, but I think we have a wheel problem here.”…
