Sheriff’s Office: Missing 71-year-old hunter in Wisconsin found safe

JACKSON, Wis. (WFRV) – A 71-year-old diabetic man was found safely on Sunday after going missing while pheasant hunting in Wisconsin, authorities say.

According to a release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel responded at 12:46 p.m. to the Jackson Marsh after a 71-year-old man from Richfield called his wife, saying that he had gotten lost.

Deputies report that the man had gotten lost while pheasant hunting and is a Type 1 diabetic who was experiencing low blood sugar and was unsure of his location at the time.

Washington County officials were able to contact the missing hunter over the phone and, eventually, by using mapping technology like the What3Words app and a drone, they were able to pinpoint and confirm his location about 1,900 feet into what is said to be an “extremely challenging” marsh terrain that consists mostly of knee-deep water…
