Amidst government shutdown, Wisconsin municipalities step in for SNAP assistance

MILWAUKEE — Federal food-assistance programs are at risk of expiring on November 1st. If the government shutdown continues, 42 million people are at risk of losing SNAP benefits that help keep families nourished.

As food pantries are at risk of losing federal support, local governments and organizations in Wisconsin are stepping in to help feed residents in Southeast Wisconsin.

The City of Milwaukee along with Milwaukee County, Milwaukee Public Schools and the Milwaukee Bucks are working in collaboration with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin and Nourish MKE to help resupply food pantries with available food to Wisconsin residents…
