Mequon Police Advise Heightened Security as South American Crime Group Linked to Area Burglaries

Residents of Mequon and surrounding areas are being cautioned to enhance their home security measures as local police link recent burglaries to a South American crime group. Mequon police have urged the community to activate alarms and surveillance systems, following a series of home invasions believed to be orchestrated by this organized network, which appears to use similar tactics in each burglary, as per information released by WISN 12 News.

According to the Mequon Police Department’s observations, these break-ins tend to occur between Thursday and Sunday during the early evening hours, focusing on homes set in seclusion at the ends of cul-de-sacs or near wooded areas, as reported by FOX6 News, In a disturbing pattern, the targeted houses are usually unoccupied, allowing thieves to make off with valuables like jewelry, designer purses, and cash and trail cameras have captured suspects with their faces hidden by masks and backpacks, prowling the woods behind these homes.

In a statement obtained by WISN 12 News, Mequon police Capt. John Hoell disclosed that the group is highly efficient, employing consistent methods and specialized tools in its operations. “They’re doing it at the same times of the week. Same entries in the houses. So they’re being taught on what to do, what to look for, and it’s the same merchandise that they’re taking,” Hoell said, indicating a level of training and sophistication in their criminal activities…
