MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WFRV) – A Wisconsin woman was convicted two years after being charged with 20 crimes relating to healthcare fraud and money laundering worth over $2 million.

According to a release from Brad D. Schimel, the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, Markita Barnes of Milwaukee was the owner of Here for You, a now out-of-business prenatal care company, when the fraudulent activities occurred.
The initial indictment came in June 2023 from a federal grand jury, and during the trial, it was established that Barnes and her staff exploited numerous vulnerable pregnant women and mothers by encouraging them to join the prenatal care coordination programs with kickbacks.
These kickbacks were in the form of cash bonuses, providing them with free baby items. Upon enrollment, the company illegally used the information to submit Medicaid claims to recoup money for services never provided, even falsifying dates to far before enrollment…
