MILWAUKEE, Wis. – More than six months after the Wisconsin Center District announced a best-use study on the future of the land holding the UWM Panther Arena and Miller High Life Theatre in downtown Milwaukee, a resolution passes that would make any possible alterations to the buildings more difficult.
The Milwaukee Common Council passed the measure November 25 that will grant permanent historic designation to both buildings. Alderwoman Milele Coggs abstained from an otherwise unanimous vote.
While the designation does not prohibit the possible demolition of the buildings, it does require input from the City’s Historic Preservation Committee, and also would require the process to be done in a way that best preserves the exterior materials of the structures…
