The City of South Milwaukee has released its 2026 operating budget. The total levy for 2026 is $12,189,834, a 7.18% decrease from the previous year. The city’s portion of the tax rate will decrease from $7.89 to $7.33 per $1,000 of assessed value. This change is expected to lower property taxes by about $140 for a home assessed at $250,000.
Fees for Street Department special pick-ups and the Self Deposit Station will remain the same. The overall tax rate, including the School District, Milwaukee County, and MATC, will decrease by 0.99%.
