Milwaukee Braces for Dense Fog, Plunging Temperatures, and Gusty Winds, NWS Issues Multiple Advisories

Residents are faced with dense fog, a rapid drop in temperature, and gusty conditions that will likely lead to hazardous travel and potential power outages. According to the National Weather Service Milwaukee, a “Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for areas southwest of Madison through midday,” with rain expected to cover southern Wisconsin this morning and include isolated lightning strikes.

Later in the day, as the fog lifts, the concerns don’t dissipate. Temperatures are set to plummet “well below freezing this evening,” with any untreated surfaces becoming slick, the National Weather Service warns. In concert with this temperature fall, “Snow will develop across all of southern Wisconsin, with widespread accumulations over an inch expected.” Given these conditions, a Winter Weather Advisory has been declared, spanning from this evening through tonight for several counties where 2 to 5 inches of snowfall and gusty winds are anticipated.

Evidencing the seriousness of the situation, the National Weather Service Milwaukee has announced a Wind Advisory “from 6 PM this evening to 6 PM CST Monday.” This advisory highlights considerable northwest winds traveling at 20 to 30 mph and gusts that could reach up to 50 mph.
