Historic building could face demolition if development efforts fail

The city is making a last-ditch effort to find someone to redevelop a historic building in Milwaukee’s Harambee neighborhood before it heads to the wrecking ball.

The Department of City Development hasn’t received responses to its efforts to sell the Hummel/Uihlein Building, 2673-2779 N. King Drive. The building, which the city acquired through property tax foreclosure, has been on the market since January 2022 with an asking price of $10,000.

Constructed in 1889, it’s one of the few Romanesque revival-style buildings remaining in Milwaukee…
