MILWAUKEE — Twenty-four years after Wiconsin’s Casey FitzRandolph won a gold medal in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, another Wisconsinite is capturing the world’s attention on the ice.
“We call [Jordan Stolz] a unicorn,” FitzRandolph said. “He is literally the best speed skater the world has ever seen since Eric Heiden won his five golds in 1980 in Lake Placid, the year that I started.”
Stolz has a chance Thursday to become the first Winter Olympian to win three gold medals in a Games since Heiden won those five, and FitzRandolph said fellow Wisconsinites should do their part to cheer him on and witness history…
