Homes MKE marks 70th completed home as Sherman Park couple achieves homeownership

MILWAUKEE— A Milwaukee couple is celebrating a major milestone– becoming homeowners– as the City of Milwaukee’s Home MKE initiative marks its 70th completed property.

Gregory and Rashida Lowery are closing on a newly renovated home in the Sherman Park neighborhood after 32 years of marriage and raising multiple children in Milwaukee.

The home was once a vacant, city-owned property. It has since been fully rehabilitated with modern upgrades through the Homes MKE program.

Mayor Cavalier Johnson toured the home Friday morning, highlighting the city’s continued focus on housing. Johnson has declared 2026 the “Year of Housing” in Milwaukee, a citywide effort aimed at increasing affordability and expanding pathways to homeownership…
