John Degroote’s craft beer journey started nearly a decade ago when he began brewing out of a friend’s West Allis garage. That was the humble beginnings of New Barons Brewing Cooperative, which eventually found a brick-and-mortar home in the Lincoln Warehouse (2018 S. First St.) in 2020.
Now, Degroote has moved his focus to an old service station located at 8000 N. Port Washington Rd. in Fox Point. That’s where he’ll open Acronym Brewing Co. in late 2026. He received final approval from the village of Fox Point in December.
“I live (in Fox Point), so this is something I want for my community and myself,” said Degroote. “New Barons has been at the Fox Point Beer Garden for four years now, and public response has exceeded expectations. There’s no fixed nightlife here, or even afternoonlife. You can tell people need a spot, a place outside of their home. All of that influenced my decision.”…
