MPS notifies 201 employees their jobs will end after this school year

As part of budget cuts at Milwaukee Public Schools, 201 employees received letters March 24 informing them that their jobs will end after this school year, according to MPS officials who shared the news March 25.

Layoffs were expected as part of Superintendent Brenda Cassellius’ plan to reduce about 260 jobs, which was approved by the Milwaukee School Board on March 9.

Many of the roughly 260 jobs being terminated were already vacant, and a “small number” of employees in the targeted positions decided to retire, leaving 201 employees to receive notices that their jobs are ending, officials said.
