Amtrak seeks public’s thoughts on potential “Hiawatha West” line between Milwaukee and Madison

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – A future passenger rail connection between Milwaukee and Madison remains a theoretical concept for now.

But Amtrak, which operates the lion’s share of passenger rail service within Wisconsin is in its early planning stages for an extension to their Hiawatha Line. The train currently runs south from Milwaukee to Chicago, and carried around 632,000 passengers on its route last year.

The “Hiawatha West” line would initially have up to two daily round-trips “with a focus on temporary stations in the Pewaukee, Watertown, and Madison areas”, according to Amtrak…
