More than 35,000 homes across the Twin Cities region are still without power after an overnight storm that turned severe, bringing strong winds and torrential rain.
The system arrived at around 3 a.m. and turned severe as it approached the east metro, with a severe thunderstorm warning for issued for St. Paul, Roseville and the northeast metro at 3:20 a.m.
Bring Me The News meteorologist Sven Sundgaard says the storm contained a wind gust recorded at 61 mph, and there are some early reports of trees down in St. Paul.
The Xcel Energy outage map shows there are still 35,000 homes without power as of 7:30 a.m., mostly in the east metro. At its peak there were 75,000 households that lost electricity.
