MINNESOTA (Valley News Live) – A rare fish is caught on the Mississippi River.
Joe Busch of Cottage Grove has set a new Minnesota catch-and-release record with a 31.25-inch blue sucker he reeled in from the Mississippi River in May, according to state officials.
Blue suckers were once common and highly valued by commercial fisheries, earning the nickname “sweet sucker.”
Their numbers crashed in the early 1900s as habitat was lost and water pollution increased. Biologists say the species has been slowly rebounding since the federal Clean Water Act was passed in 1972…
