MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Northern News Now) – Vance Boelter is set to be sentenced Thursday on federal charges stemming from the June 2025 murders of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark Hortman.
Boelter pleaded guilty last month to the federal charges. Under the plea agreement, prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty. They are, however, asking for two life sentences and an additional 40 years.
State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were also shot during the attack but both recovered.
