The Shakopee City Council has revoked the license for a hotel near Canterbury Park, citing a series of problematic incidents there, including when two people died during an adult event.
The Baymont Hotel off Canterbury Road and Highway 169 had 41 police incidents in 2025, and 43 so far in 2026, according to the city.
Sometimes the hotel would be booked in full for private events. This included the “Big O” Frozen Fantasy Event at the end of 2024. On New Year’s Day 2025, police discovered the remains of two people, and in the room were substances that tested positive for meth, cocaine, and fentanyl, according to city officials.
