Severe storms could develop in eastern Minnesota and move into western Wisconsin on Tuesday, with the main threats being large hail and strong winds. Tornadoes can’t be ruled out completely.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed a slice of the region in a level 2 of 5 slight risk. The Twin Cities are just south of the main zone of concern, receiving a level 1 of 5 marginal risk for severe weather.
The SPC expects strong to severe storms to develop along a cold front by mid-to-late afternoon.
“Some supercells will be possible initially, aside from more prevalent multicells/clusters,” the SPC says. “Large hail and damaging winds are expected to be the primary hazards as convection tracks eastward through the evening, before weakening commences with the onset of nocturnal cooling.”…
