Minnesota Therapist Faces 13 Felony Charges After Prosecutors Say He Billed Medicaid for More Than 27,000 Psychotherapy Claims Never Provided

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A Minnesota therapist is accused of pulling in more than $2.25 million in Medicaid payments by billing for psychotherapy and behavioral health services that prosecutors say were never delivered. The case centers on Peter Jason Meilahn, 50, who was charged by warrant Monday in Ramsey County.

According to a criminal complaint, Meilahn submitted 27,430 claims between October 2019 and March 2026. Investigators say those claims were tied to services that did not happen, and that the billing pattern involved at least 117 Medicaid recipients.

He has not yet made his first court appearance.
