Larry ‘Moon’ Thompson, of KS95 ‘Staci and Moon’ fame, dies after long MS battle

Larry “Moon” Thompson, a longtime Twin Cities radio personality for KS95, has died after a battle with multiple sclerosis (MS).

The radio station shared the news on social media Thursday, calling for those to share their tributes and memories using the hashtag #RememberingMoon.

Moon was 65 years old.

He previously co-hosted afternoons with Staci Matthews on the “Moon and Staci Show” from 2002 to 2019. That’s when Moon announced he would be stepping away from the radio booth due to increased complications from MS, a disease he was diagnosed with in 2005.

“Sometimes in life you don’t get to choose what goes on and my health is now making my decisions for me,” Moon said when he shocked listeners with his announcement on Aug. 3, 2019.

“For the last 14 years this thing has taken things away from me that I love. Like dancing with my wife, and playing with my kids and stuff. It’s made a mess of things. But I just kept coming back, and I got to play radio star. And I’m so damn glad I did.”
