Lucas Bellamy, 41, can be seen in surveillance footage from the Hennepin County Jail, doubled over in pain, asking for medical attention

A new federal lawsuit alleges the final moments of a Minnesota man’s life were spent inside a jail, begging in vain for nurses and guards to get him to a doctor — pleas his grieving family claims went ignored, leading to his untimely death.

The Messenger obtained a copy of the lawsuit, which names four jail staffers as well as Hennepin Healthcare System Inc., and the county of Hennepin as defendants.

According to the wrongful death lawsuit , Lucas Bellamy, 41, can be seen in surveillance footage from the Hennepin County Jail, doubled over in pain, asking for medical attention.

The civil suit alleges that guards forced Bellamy “to crawl on his hands and knees” on the jail floor on July 20, 2022, “like he was subhuman, like he was an animal, while he slowly and painfully died from the effects of a hole in his intestine.” He’s also seen in the video writhing on the floor.
