Minnesota Lawmaker Pleads Guilty to DWI

Minnesota state representative Brion Curran (DFL-Vadnais Heights) pleaded guilty this week to a misdemeanor DWI charge stemming from an arrest last October in Chisago County.

Court records show that Rep. Curran entered a guilty plea on Tuesday ahead of a scheduled court hearing on Wednesday.

Judge Catherine Trevino accepted the plea deal, which saw additional charges dropped in exchange for the DWI guilty plea.

According to the criminal complaint, a sheriff’s deputy responded on October 9, 2023 to reports of an erratic driver on Interstate 35 near Harris, Minnesota.

The deputy found Curran driving a damaged SUV on the highway shoulder with a flat tire.

Curran exhibited signs of impairment during field sobriety tests and later registered a .16 blood alcohol content at the jail – twice the legal limit.

As part of the plea agreement, Rep. Curran will serve two days in the Chisago County Jail with an additional 88 days stayed pending completion of probation.

Curran will also pay a $400 fine, attend a victim impact panel, undergo a comprehensive assessment, and remain law-abiding.
