Second Harvest Heartland announces initiative to cut hunger in half in Minnesota

Cargill and Target each pledged ten-million dollars on Monday as part of a new initiative to cut hunger in half in Minnesota by the end of the decade.

The initiative called “Make Hunger History” was announced in front of several hundred supporters at Second Heartland Harvest headquarters in Brooklyn Park.

“The country needs someone, and it just as well be Minnesota to be the beacon to show that this can happen,” said Minnesota Governor, Tim Walz. “We’ve got work to do here, we’ve got work to do across the country.”

The initiative comes as visits to food shelves in Minnesota surpassed seven million last year.

That’s double the number of visits in 2021

“These commitments announced today by Cargill and Target reflect the enormity of the issue we face together,” said Allison O’Toole, CEO, 2nd Harvest Heartland. “We need everybody to be all in. We need your voices, we need your time, we need your dollars, to get the job done.”
