Armed robbery on Brooklyn Park college campus triggers lockdown

A armed robbery sent Hennepin Technical College in Brooklyn Park into lockdown Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.

The suspect, believed to be armed with a handgun, fled into the college building and hid in the bathroom, where he was arrested, the Brooklyn Park Police Department said.

Police were dispatched to the college around 12:30 p.m. on report of an armed robbery, according to a news release.

“Officers quickly learned that the robbery occurred outside on the campus and that the suspect had fled into the school,” police stated, adding officers worked closely with school officials during the incident.

After the suspect was found and arrested, law enforcement swept the campus to determine there were no ongoing threats before the lockdown was lifted.

There were no injuries reported, police said. The suspect remains in custody in connection with aggravated robbery.
