Minneapolis man accused of assaulting Wausau child now in custody

A 47-year-old Minneapolis man accused of repeatedly assaulting a 6-year-old child in Wausau is behind bars Friday, months after official charges were filed against him.

Chue Yang, who formerly lived in Wausau, is being held on a $50,000 cash bond ordered Jan. 31 by Circuit Judge Mike Moran. Yang faces charges of repeatedly sexually assaulting the same child, a felony with a maximum penalty of up to 60 years in prison.

Police say Yang forced the child to have sex on multiple occasions while he was dating a woman related to the girl. The alleged assaults happened in 2008 at an apartment on Townline Road.

The charges were filed Aug. 31, when an arrest warrant was issued for Yang. He was brought to the Marathon County Jail this week from Hennepin County, Minn., according to court documents.

A review hearing is set for Friday in the case.

You are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
