Boy, 11, fatally struck by Metro Transit bus is identified

An 11-year-old boy has been identified as the victim of a fatal crash with a Metro Transit bus in Brooklyn Park.

The Metro Transit Police Department says the crash occurred just before 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31 in the northbound lanes of County Road 81 south of 71st Avenue.

Despite life-saving attempts, the boy was pronounced dead shortly after the crash. He has since been identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner as 11-year-old Mahad Ahmed Osman of Brooklyn Park.

Osman’s cause of death was reported to be multiple blunt force injuries.

According to the Brooklyn Park Police Department, a preliminary investigation indicates Osman was standing on the highway before he was struck.

The bus driver will undergo drug and alcohol testing and be placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated, per Metro Transit policy.

No passengers were aboard the bus at the time of the incident.
