Man ‘laying in the lane’ fatally struck near Anoka-Champlin bridge

A 41-year-old Minneapolis man died Friday night when he allegedly laying in the road and struck by a driver in the north metro.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Gregory M. Bowles was “laying in the lane” on northbound Highway 169 “just north of Dayton Road at the bridge” that crosses the Mississippi River and connects Champlin to Anoka when he was struck by a motorist.

The driver, a 36-year-old Anoka woman, was in a Kia Sorento when she struck the man at approximately 11:18 p.m.

Bowles was taken to North Memorial where he died.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to the patrol’s report.
