Robbinsdale Oil, a historic gas station at 4082 West Broadway, was founded in 1938 by Henry Hughes and Phil Terey. Hughes later became the sole owner and expanded the building in the late 1940s with the help of contractors Carl Mattson and Carl Mattson Jr.

Hughes’s son, Denny, started working at the station when he was eleven and took over in 1963 after his father’s death. In 1988, Denny partnered with Jack Frigard and by 2011, they moved the business to a new location on West Broadway, in Robin Center.

Denny retired in 1990 and passed away in 2021, leaving a legacy of community service.

In 2022, a developer from Edina announced plans to turn the former gas station into a coffee shop, according to CCX News. No further updates have been provided since the announcement.

Robbinsdale Oil’s history reflects the evolution of local businesses and their community impact. From its founding in 1938 to its potential future as a coffee shop, the station has been a key landmark on West Broadway.
