Authorities ID suspect shot dead during attempted carjacking in Minneapolis

The man who authorities say was shot to death while attempting to rob a Mercedes in Minneapolis has been identified.

Marlo Randy Phillips, a 27-year-old Minneapolis resident, died of “multiple” gunshot wounds in the Friday incident, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner announced Sunday.

Police say he and one other man, a 21-year-old, approached the vehicle — which contained a 2-year-old child as well as the driver —on Golden Valley Road when “gunfire erupted.”

Phillips died at the scene, while the driver of the Mercedes soon turned up at North Memorial Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The 2-year-old was not hurt.

The surviving suspect has been arrested. There’s been no update as of Sunday on the victim’s condition.

An investigation is underway.
