MSP Airport Breaks Daily Snowfall Record, Several Wrecks Reported Across Twin Cities

TWIN CITIES, MINNESOTA – The Minneapolis International Airport (MPS) officially broke a record yesterday, Wednesday, February 14, 2024, for daily snowfall, measuring 6.9 inches of snow as of midnight on Thursday, February 15, 2024. The previous record was 6.4 inches, set back in 1950.

Across the Twin Cities region, in general, around 5-7 inches of snow. According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, the highest report they received as of 3 AM was from Shakopee and Victoria, Minnesota, sitting around 7.2 inches.

Based on the latest reports from CoCoRaHS, there were a few reports of upwards of 7.5 inches of snow that fell around the Twin Cities and just to the east. The general range remains 5-7 inches across most of the Twin Cities Metro.

With the snow came several wrecks across the region. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, around 431 crashes occurred between Noon on Wednesday, February 14th, and 7 AM on Thursday, February 15th. Thirty-one were injury accidents, and three were serious/fatal crashes. In addition to the accidents, there were 331 spin-outs and 12 jackknifed semis.
